Couples Therapy

Coming to therapy can feel daunting.

Notice the darkness in the picture above, and also notice the light at the end of the tunnel made by the trees on either side.

When seeing a couple, I have three clients: partner 1, partner 2, and the relationship between partners 1 and 2. The focus of my work is the relationship, as that is the core of what brought you into therapy.

Your relationship cannot see the light.

At the moment, for whatever reason, the relationship feels overwhelmed by the darkness in the journey. With the relationship at the forefront, and taking in the goals of the couple into consideration, we formulate a path out of the darkness for your relationship.

One of the things I have found to be true in couples work is that the fight is never about the words coming out of your mouths. Rather, there is something deeper at play – often hurt or fear. I emphasize seeing each partner as valuable and unique while balancing your individual needs with those of the couple.

No two couples are alike, so we’ll tailor our treatment to you.

No issue is off limits in Couples Therapy.

Whether you and your partner face communication challenges, some new diagnosis together, grief, the intrusion of in-laws, or other area(s), my job is to meet you right where you are. In my office, all three of us are experts, and I never forget that.

I have skills, knowledge, and techniques you, as a couple, are not aware of – yet. However, I have never been you and have no idea what it is like to live in your skins or operate in your world. Together, and with your goals in mind, we will create a journey unique to your needs. Then, I help you navigate that journey. Some of the potential therapeutic forms we may use are: Talk therapy, Sand Tray therapy, Cultural awareness, Fair-Fighting Skills, or Marriage Strong curriculum work.

Take the first step.

I know it’s difficult… deciding to ask for help from a stranger.
